Thoughts

So there was this recent controversy on the role of women in the Indian defence force. I was really tempted to write my opinion on the issue but then felt that I might be judging the abilities of women in all and then be hounded by the one female reader that I have. So I waited till I could get some more inputs. Last week I had this opportunity to talk to a friend of mine who is in the navy. As usual I was just pulling his leg on the topic of girlfriends. He was telling me that the number of girls in his profession was a very meagre figure. But he felt that girls were more of a liability than an advantage when it comes to the field of national defence. Leaving apart the physical disadvantage that they have compared to the males, they also lack a lot of other essential qualities needed to command people under them. Just because the alpha females of today want to prove that they are competent in any field (which I dont disagree with) doesnt mean that they poke their nose in everything. Just like there are some things that only women can do there are also some professions which are best left to the males.

Well the above mentioned views are not exactly mine and I might not endorse them completely but I still agree to them to quite a good extent.

Leaving the defence of the country in the able hands of my friend and others I thought I would come to a more weird happening closer home. The Barista and the coffee day that was on MG road (for the uninitiated that is the "happening" road in bangalore : but coming to think of it my blog readers are all initiated) have been removed. Rather they were taken off due to a order by the government. But why? The reason cited by the government is the spread of the infection chikungunya due to the presence of these outlets. Now that is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes. But removing the Baristas and the coffee days - and sparing the thousands of unhygenic open air food stalls found on almost every street : that sounds exactly like what the government would do.

Last weekend I had gone to the TVS showroom to test ride the new bike they have launched - the Apache. Well it is a different thing that I really dont know how I will handle a bike but I did book the vehicle. Maybe I will get it in 4 weeks from now. So soon you could see a stud (me) zooming around Bangalore in his newly acquired black Apache (with or without a gal as pillion) trying out the stunts mentioned in the webpage or in the hospital. But the best part is that I just had to pay a thousand bucks to book the vehicle and that is fully refundable if I decide to back out in the end.

  • congrats dude! u deserve a bike atleast ;-p anyway, guess u ve mentioned few debatable things in ur post... debatable coz i don't subscribe to ur/ur friends views completely... during evolution of nation states, defense work has become less physical and more technical and skillful activities (and we can surely see that if u see some sci-fi movies of the future representation.. where women wear tight outfits and are equal in no.)... i believe more and more women can be involved in defense now and times to come... anyway just my theory.

  • Woemn lack some of the qualities to command!!! Seriously you think so!!!???? I think women are much better at commanding than men. And I agree with rupam (not on the tight outfits) that these days defense isnt just about physical fighting, its about intelligence too. Thats what women are really good at and here women will always reign over men.
And the bike... I want to test ride!!!
