Late at night

There are times when a judgement is passed without due consideration of all the facts. There are times when I arrive at conclusions without looking at the matter in various possible perspectives. Have an opinion but never pass a judgement. That is exactly what I learnt over the weekend. This time it was more interesting than the last one where I spent time loafing in a park. This time the place turned out to be an ice-cream parlour (It used to be a Corner House, but no longer is) pretty close to the park.

Four of us met up at the ice cream place. This time there was a girl in the group. This girl was different in many ways from the girls who used to join us. She was constantly looking at her watch. Now there are only two reasons why any girl would do that. She is either bored and just wants the time to pass quickly or is having commitments and needs to keep them. When I saw her call up her parents to let them know the time by which she would be home I realised that it was the second reason.

But I did get an opportunity to strike up a conversation with her.

Me : So is it that you are usually home by nine due to compulsion or is it your own choice.

Her : It is of course my own choice. And my parents expect me to be at home by the time its dark

At that point in time I felt that it was weird, but then didnt think a lot about it. Though I did mention to her that She was pretty different from the other girls I knew. She just smiled!!

But when I went back home and thought a bit about it I felt what an idiot I have been. Let us consider that I have a daughter. What would I expect out of her. Would I not tell her to be at home before its dark. Would I not instill into her the importance of keeping her parents informed about her whereabouts. Along with incorporating all the modern thoughts and ideas required by today's girls, would I not encourage her to stick to the values and principles that any person is expected to adhere to. Would I not help her to cultivate the right habits - habits, we already know define who we are!!

And this girl was exactly doing that!! Along with incorporating modern thoughts and styles She has kept her core values and discipline intact. I think she can enter the list of sundar, susheel and gharelu ladki!!!

Inner conscience : But you let Her pay for the ice-cream? What were you people thinking?

Brain : I was not thinking.

Heart : Ah, the ironies in life befuddle me at times!!!
